The procedure is a newly approved fat reduction technique that uses cold temperature in order to eliminate the fat layers in specific spots on your body. It is non-invasive, unlike lipo, requiring no surgery or recovery time. The longest-lasting, and most widely displayed side-effect is some short-term desensitization in the area where the procedure is done.
How Does it Work?
Freezing fat cells effectively kills these cells and causes your body to undergo apoptosis, which is the safe removal of these dead cells. The feeling of having the skin pulled, and then cooled has been described as “slightly uncomfortable” at worst, and “not even noticeable” at best, according to those who have undergone the procedure. It is similar to the feeling of placing a cold pack on an injury. Patients have been known to fall asleep during the procedure, because it’s so comfortable. You can also keep yourself occupied by reading books or magazines, or by playing Angry Birds on your iPhone.
- Redness in the treated area typically lasting only a few hours
- Swelling in the treated area also typically only lasting a few hours
- Loss of sensation or tingling which can last up to 1 or 2 weeks after treatment
- Bruising as a result of the machine squeezing down on your skin & will last as long as a typical bruise
If any of these symptoms persist, consult your physician. Most patients report that there is no pain, and few of the above side effects. According to this study, nerve biopsies were taken 6 weeks after the procedure was administered and there were no signs of nerve degeneration.
